Dominican Republic
This island is very popular for both Americans and Europeans as it offers beautiful beaches and reasonable accomodation prices. We chose it mainly for a surfing and kite surfing destination. We did not stay in the well known resort town of Punta Cana but on the north side of the island in a town called Cabarete, where the winds are always blowing.
We only stayed a week here in early January, but it was enough to get a good feel for this part of the island. I chose to stay at the xxx hotel right on the beach and had its own onsite kite surf school. Mike was the surfer boy but I enjoyed the view and proximity to the cute town of Cabarete.
